THE LAND OF THE CAT’S ELBOW (2025)
Kazym is a national village. Most of its inhabitants are Kazym Khanty, an indigenous small population of northern Russia. This people have their own gods, customs, culture and crafts. They are accustomed to live in unity with nature, despite the harsh climatic conditions of the Arctic zone. Many families of Kazym are engaged in reindeer herding. In search of food, the reindeer herd becomes mobile and moves across the taiga from pasture to pasture. Reindeer herders are always close by, guiding the animals and protecting them from wolves. Nomads practically never stay anywhere for long, spending their lives in constant migrations across Siberia. Often reindeer herders live in chums or huts, and sometimes even sleep on narts in the open air. Despite the rapid development of technology, reindeer herders here live as their ancestors did a hundred years ago.
